The University of Texas, with its topmost campus in the Austin,according to Richard Moll is one of the unique eight "Public Ivy’s,".In 1985, Mollcreated the phrase in his book, Public Ivys: A Guide to America's Best Public Universities and Undergraduate Colleges. The sentence has since come to contain several more universities who deliver an Ivy League education at a public university price.
UT earned such a difference by providing anexcellence education for undergraduates since it built in 1883. As far back as 1839, the government of Texas set aside forty acres of land in Austin for the purpose of opening a public university. They called the region College Hill. Construction did not originate until 1881, when Austin was legitimately made the main campus for the new university. By this time, Texas A&M had previously beaten it to being the first university in Texas. Unluckily, one of the most unforgettable points in the history of the University of Texas was when Charles Whitman secured himself and a rifle at the top of the Main Building Tower in 1966. He shot and killed 14 persons.
Nowadays, UT is one of the biggest universities in the U.S. Admission reaches closely 50,000 every year and the extensive campus covers 350 acres near downtown Austin. Several of its individual programs rank highly as well. For example, the engineering school ranks in the top ten and the business school, 5th position.
In athletics, UT also excels. Football is king in Texas and the UT Longhorns are constantly one of the best teams in the nation. In 2005 won the NCAA national competition in Football and become champions. UT has also traditionally been effective in baseball, diving,basketball, and swimming. All big universities have their competitions and for the Longhorns, it’s Texas A&M. The Longhorns and the Aggies have the 3rdlongest running rivalry in the U.S.
In its long and great history, UT has produced numerous successful graduates. Farrah Fawcett, Renee Zellweger,Janis Joplin, David Geffen,Roger Clemens, and several other popular people graduated from UT Austin.
